The presentation by Stuart Bull, informed me of the many different 3D tools/software that are being used in Architectural and Engineering Practices. Programs such as AutoCAD, Rhino, 3DS MAX, General Component, Revit, etc are being used more and more to help engineers/architects reach a higher degree of accuracy and provides a more "realistic" model, which in turn aids them in completion of the design and technical details faster and easier. And like our course, we are working towards completing a "realistic" model of townhall while using different modelling software to achieve our goal.
In addition, Stuart Bull presented in his lecture many projects his company - ARUP, has been involved in, including the "Water Cube", the new Hong Kong International Airport, seven of out of ten of the new high rise buildings in London, the refurbishment of the Sydney Opera House and many more. And with these he discussed the use of different BIM software which significantly helped them work out details, such as glass panelling, with greater ease compared to if they had been using 2D models.
